In this chapter I disliked meeting Tom’s mistress, at that point he should just be with her if he’s going to tell everyone. Daisy is beautiful and classy and most defiantly has a more pristine reputation but Tom is ruining his by telling everyone about Myrtle so there’s no appearance to keep up for the upper class. This I predict will be a main reason as to why her and Gatsby have a love affair. Her partner is not loyal to her so why should she stay loyal, maybe a sort of revenge tactic. It’s interesting to see so much gossip there is amongst the woman at the party but defiantly not shocking in the slightest. Gossip is very interesting and essential in their day to day lives. The women do hardly nothing all day which is why they gossip so much. Almost all untrue and hurtful, “‘It’s really his wife that’s keeping them apart. She’s a Catholic, and they don’t really believe in divorce’ Daisy was not Catholic”(33). In the previous chapter Jordan would do absolutely nothing all day. The upper class think very highly of themselves, judge harshly, and spread untrue rumors. Nick feels a bit out of place since he knows their lying. A lot more women staying home doing less and men working and making money which is expected in this time period but it makes the women judgmental and speak a lot.
