Chapter 1

“In my younger and more vulnerable years my father gave me some advice that I’ve been turning over in my mind ever since. ‘Whenever you feel like criticizing any one,’ he told me, ‘just remember that all the people in this world haven’t had the advantages that you’ve had.’”

The narrator explains how he is not in the position to judge and he is telling the story how it is. I like how the narrator is related to Daisy and we are able to see their marriage. Nick is going to seek Gatsby a lot more since he has now seen him. I do not like Tom the husband of Daisy because of his personality we see at the dinner party. He is racist and publicly cheating on his wife. There is a difference between the newly rich and people who were born into it. They lived across the sound from one another but there was a difference because East egg people could not live in West egg and the people of West egg could not live in East egg. Cynicism is a big theme in this chapter because at the dinner party everyone is very self indulged
