“[Daisy and Tom] weren’t happy, and neither of them had touched the chicken or the ale—and yet they weren’t unhappy either. There was an unmistakable air of natural intimacy about the picture, and anybody would have said that they were conspiring together.” This was a meaningful quote because although they were not happy yet with one another they also were not upset and unhappy they were in a middle ground and seemingly willing to try again.
The image I chose connects to the chapter because Daisy kills Myrtle when she runs her over with Gatsby’s car. This was something I found unsettling. It disappoints me that Gatsby and Daisy are slipping apart from one another like this so quickly. I thought that they had a stronger bond. I predict a complete fallout between Gatsby and Daisy while her and Tom try to repair things. Gatsby just dreamed and created something that really could not be. Daisy did once love Tom and could not say she never loved him. While Gatsby and Daisy were beginning something that possibly could’ve been more Tom and Myrtle were ending, her husband Wilson found out she was cheating although not with who she was planning on moving her West. A strong theme is how Tom and Wilson are in the same position. Even Gatsby they are all losing their loves buts it’s a brutal ending for Gatsby
